A Healthy Diet And A Healthy Lifestyle

Health, according to the World Health Organization, is a state of full physical, mental and emotional well-being and not just the absence of illness and infirmity. Various definitions have been applied to this concept over the years. A physical definition usually refers to the condition of being healthy, an emotional definition reflecting ones attitude toward health, and a social definition referring to one’s participation in wellness programs. All three concepts are interdependent and interact to promote optimal health.

The three concepts are often discussed together because good health requires more than prevention or cure. A combination of prevention and treatment is necessary to keep people from becoming ill and living with disabilities. In order to be healthy, people need to be informed about the various types of diseases and what they do to the body and mind. This knowledge is necessary to help individuals develop positive attitudes toward health and to participate in wellness programs.

The concept of the three separate components is closely related but not identical because mental health encompasses aspects of physical health and vice versa. Mental disorders include mood disorders, schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. When these are present, a person’s mental health is compromised and he may be at risk for developing a physical illness.

A healthy lifestyle means a proper diet, regular exercise, relaxation and good hygiene. Healthy behaviors also reduce the risk of developing a mental illness. A proper diet refers to eating foods that are nutrient-dense and balanced and that supply energy to the body. A regular exercise program helps you get rid of unwanted waste products from the body and reduces your chances of acquiring physical illnesses. A relaxed lifestyle includes regular bed rest, proper clothing and relaxation activities such as meditation or yoga.

There are numerous ways to improve the quality of life and promote total well-being. One way is through promoting a healthy lifestyle. Public education campaigns regarding the risks of obesity, smoking and other tobacco products are a great source of information. Programs that incorporate physical education teach kids about their bodies and how they affect their health and lifestyles. Educational programs on wellness, including physical fitness and nutrition, are also available to children. Other programs focusing on the mental well-being of the population, such as drug or alcohol abuse prevention, depression and anxiety, family counseling, and domestic violence are also effective ways of improving the quality of life.

As of now, it is still unclear which factors combine to make a healthy diet and a physically fit individual. A healthy diet needs to have a balance of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products, lean meats, poultry, fish and nuts. A physically fit person has sufficient energy, has a sound mind and body, and does not suffer from diseases such as diabetes and cancer. The best way to get a healthy diet is to start young by eating a good diet at a young age and exercising regularly to stay in good health into adulthood. With a little dedication and effort, staying healthy and disease free can be achieved.
