Knowing the definitions of Beauty

What is beauty? Beauty is a word that can mean different things to different people. For many centuries the definition of beauty has been defined by what beauty is to those who know the definition. The word beauty comes from the Greek word “tropian” which means lovely. This was a term that was used to define the classical Greeks. This group of people were considered to be beautiful and there are several arguments that support this claim.

Many people argue that beauty is a trait that is in the eyes of the beholder. Beauty is commonly defined as a physical trait that makes these persons pleasant to see; however, these same persons may deem another person unattractive based on their standards. These definitions have existed for hundreds of years and they don’t appear to be going anywhere any time soon.

The definition of beauty has always been based on what is seen on the outside of a person. In ancient times, beauty was viewed to be in the eyes of the beholder. For example, if an object was ugly, it was said to be ugly because it did not meet the eye. If we saw beauty in the eyes of other people, we could say that this object was beautiful because it met our own eyesight. Ancient Greeks, however, looked at beauty in a much different light as they focused their beauty practices more on the inside of the body rather than the appearance of the outer skin.

While the outward beauty of a person can sometimes be overlooked, there is a growing trend of beauty practices that focus more on the real beauty inside of a person. Many people believe that real beauty comes from within. Through various practices and traditions, the goal has been to make the inside more beautiful. People who practice Eastern medicine, yoga and meditation are turning their vision inward and using the practices of beauty and health to heal both the mind and the body.

Western cultures have also begun to focus more on physical beauty as opposed to beauty that comes from the inner beauty of a person. Many women wear makeup to enhance their beauty, but the makeup does not make someone beautiful. This is because makeup only masks what is less beautiful about a person.

Western cultures tend to value beauty that is seen on the outside. While it may be true that beauty comes from the inside, the importance of beauty should not be taken lightly. Being aware of the importance of real beauty and the practices used to guard against imbalances and maintain healthful habits is important for everyone to understand.
